THE ONE CHURCH OF SCRIPTURE
by James Daniel
The following outline is true to form with regards to being scripturally sound. In fact, all quotations are taken from the old reliable King James Bible. I wouldn't use anything else, nor can you get any better than that. Now the objective of this outline is to teach Bible doctrine as the final authority to both them that call themselves Christian and the church. Indeed, to teach men to rightly divide is of fundamental importance to gaining a proper understanding of what the scriptures teach. Now that crafty old devil, or Satan, has in no small way taken full advantage of the false teaching that separatism, that is, denominationalism, is acceptable with God. The foolish and wilfully ignorant call it "unity in diversity." The Bible calls it heresy. Heresy is dissent from inspired revelation. In other words, to hold opinions and beliefs contrary to what the Bible teaches (or sound doctrine). Sound doctrine is to elaborate further within the explicit boundary of Bible authority. For example, hands that shed innocent blood - Proverbs 6:17Proverbs 6:17 [King James Bible]: 17. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,, incorporates abortion (which is murder), even though abortion is not explicitly mentioned in scripture. Murdering the unborn, well, I think that speaks for itself. Furthermore, and by the same token, we who are of Christ must defend against this false image of a divided Christ. The very exsistence of denominational churches have brought the good name of Christ into irreversible disrepute, well, until the day of judgement. However, we can still teach those who are drawn by God to comprehend a more perfect understanding, that is, that Christ is not divided - 1 Corinthians 1:131 Corinthians 1:13 [King James Bible]: 13. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?. In fact, Christ was never divided. Men are the ones who divide.
The Bible teaches that there is one church - Ephesians 4:4-6Ephesians 4:4-6 [King James Bible]: 4. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.. There's no exception! Not even a particle of an exception. Not a chance, unless you have the unfortunate opportunity to join some other church. The Bible refers to the one church as the churches of Christ - Romans 16:16Romans 16:16 [King James Bible]: 16. Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.. All churches outside the church of Christ are other churches. There's nothing atypical about the one church concept of the Bible. The only thing that is atypical is what comes from man. Now that doesn't bode well with everyone; but what of that! After all, the church of Christ is the only church mentioned by reference in the scriptures. That in itself should answer the question; but unfortunately for some, it doesn't. It's usually those that are unwilling to yeild to the notion that the Bible is the final authority who reject this irrefutable and authoritative reference found in the scriptures. Others claim that we all worship the same God, only different ways. Try teaching that from the King James. There's no good in arguing with the inevitable except to dispute the terms of salvation. Any complaints need to be taken up with God. You see, the whole point that Christ suffered the cross at Calvary was to save men from their sins. It's such a pity that not everyone sees it that way. Since Christ is the one who set the standard, I think it's only reasonable he decided what church the saved are added to - Acts 2:47Acts 2:47 [King James Bible]: 47. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.. After all, Christ is in heaven and the record is in heaven. So if you want to be saved from your sins, you have to do it God's way.
If we all had a right to our own beliefs, it would no longer be the one faith we read about in Ephesians. No one has the right to alter that which pertains to God, let it be in thought or deed. Paul said that all things were lawful for him, but all things were not expedient - 1 Corinthians 10:231 Corinthians 10:23 [King James Bible]: 23. All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.. Some people allege that personal beliefs are expedient, when in fact, they're nothing more than subjectivity characterised by flagrant disrespect for Bible authority. You'll notice that it's always a case of alluding to, rather than, proving scripturally what is acceptable with God. Take, for example, the Roman Catholic church. They, like many others, claim to be Christian, when in fact, they do the opposite. The head of the Roman church is called "holy father" despite what the Bible says - Matthew 23:9Matthew 23:9 [King James Bible]: 9. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.. They say that God has a mother. The Bible says no such thing - Psalm 90:2Psalm 90:2 [King James Bible]: 2. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.. I think you get the point!
Now most, if not all, who call themselves Christian, agree that the Bible is the word of God. However, some more than others, have a tendency to second guess God on points of doctrine their unwilling to subject themselves. One area of controversy is that of women having to keep silence at church assembly. I've heard several arguments debating this so called outmoded custom, however, the Bible teaches it as law - 1 Corinthians 14:341 Corinthians 14:34 [King James Bible]: 34. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law., cf. 1 Timothy 2:121 Timothy 2:12 [King James Bible]: 12. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.. How can anyone argue with that? Yet they do. It seems that nowadays it's the in thing for women to equal themselves with men, or at least try to. The proverbial Jezebal's of our time, and it seems to be spreading. Then you have those that claim that baptism is either optional, or not at all. You'll read no such thing like that in the Bible. Another favourite of those who fail to rightly divide the scriptures is that of "speaking in tongues." In other words, unintelligible babble. They fail to recoginse what the scriptures teach with regards to the first century church. God established his word with signs and wonders, and divers miracles, and gifts of the Spirit, which also included speaking in tongues - Hebrews 2:4Hebrews 2:4 [King James Bible]: 4. God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?. The scriptures also teach that those things came to an end - 1 Corinthians 13:81 Corinthians 13:8 [King James Bible]: 8. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.. They are no longer necessary because we now have the full counsel of God's word in the form of the Bible - 1 Corinthians 13:101 Corinthians 13:10 [King James Bible]: 10. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away., cf. 1 Corinthians 13:131 Corinthians 13:13 [King James Bible]: 13. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.. So why contradict what the Bible teaches unless there is some ulterior motive? After all, the Bible is there to help us to get to heaven. Now I've heard others lament that man is only finding his way, so to speak. Finding his way to where? There's only two places, and God calls them heaven and hell. The Bible shows us how to get to either, and to that end, it's really up to the individual.
Quite a few of the false religions that call themselves Christian are fairly easy to identify. For example, when you see women preaching and teaching Bible doctrine, well, that speaks for itself - 1 Timothy 2:121 Timothy 2:12 [King James Bible]: 12. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.. Same sex marriage and the acceptance of homosexuality as normal is another no-no. The infamous baptising of infants within the Roman Catholic religion is a grand example of rejecting Bible authority. Moreover, they refer to their leader as "holy father," when in fact, the Bible teaches not to - Matthew 23:9Matthew 23:9 [King James Bible]: 9. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.. Others, however, form church councils and unauthorised jurisdictional oversight to themselves, which is another objectionable act of disobedience. Notice also, how they insidiously remove Bible authority so long as men continue after the doctrines of men, and not after God. You can rest on your laurels, that if all the religions that claim to be Christian held the Bible as the final authority in all things to the church; then they wouldn't exist.
No truer saying is found in - 2 Corinthians 4:3-42 Corinthians 4:3-4 [King James Bible]: 3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.. Currently Satan has the upper hand with the amount of false doctrine that's circulating throughout religious circles. When you have the likes of Wikipedia explainging the various churches and their beliefs, well, it goes to show how messed up things have got. No doubt a sobering thought that's relative to our time. Now unless men are quickened to speak in defence of the truth, what hope have the ignorant got? You know, it pleases God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe - 1 Corinthians 1:211 Corinthians 1:21 [King James Bible]: 21. For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.. So you either believe, or you don't believe. The choice is up to you.
The reason we dismiss all religions as false is because they are. Let's face the fact, that the same men and women who condone abortion, same-sex marriage, homosexuality, bearing children out of wedlock and women preaching, are the same men and women who are trying to set the standard when it comes to how we worship God. It seems that they have completely lost the plot. They do those things and then call themselves Christian? That's not how it works. Have they not read that God is a Spirit? Well those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth - John 4:24John 4:24 [King James Bible]: 24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.. The modal verb "must" in verse twenty four (24), expresses necessity and obligation. It also implies that there is no alternative. Count yourself very lucky to have read this critique. Very few nowadays speak out for fear of reprisal. Fear is a long time stronghold of Satan. Yet there is one in whom we should fear. Fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell - Matthew 10:28Matthew 10:28 [King James Bible]: 28. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.. Make no mistake about it. Your time, as much as mine, will come to an end, and then we'll give an account of how we lived our lives, to God. Those that have lived outside of Christ have no hope of anything. That'll include all those that have lived recklessly as Christians. They are the same that have forsaken the first principals of the oracles of God. They have effectively dug their own hole in hell for all eternity. Are you one of them?
You can rest assured that none of the following religions are Christian, let alone, do they account for even one saved soul. Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, Presbyterianism, Methodism, Pentecostalism, Mormonism, Seventh Day Adventism, Independentism (or going it alone), Orthodox, Jehovah's Witnesses, The Baptist church, Charismatic Christianity (in any shape or form), United and International (or Boston) churches of Christ, are to mention but a few. They have a steeley determination about them, in that, they call themselves Christian, when in fact, they contradict God on nearly all points of doctrine. If you belong to any of those religious groups, then you had best start thinking of changing your religion. It's estimated that there are about 43,000 (forthy three thousand) denominations in the world today. That's not to mention the untold number of sects that exist within those particular denominational groups, or as standalone entities. Have you ever wondered why there are so many? One gospel, 43,000 plus opposing opinions and beliefs? If that's not confusion well nothing is. Yet the Bible is steadfast in that God is not the author of confusion - 1 Corinthians 14:331 Corinthians 14:33 [King James Bible]: 33. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.. Anyone with an ounce of common sense will see that something is dreadfully wrong with this. Looking back on my time in the Pentecostal church, well, it's so far removed from what the Bible teaches it beggars belief. With their mysticism and Holy Spirit talk (no disrespect to the Spirit of God), well, one can only wonder what next? The only spirit about that church is Satan. As for Roman Catholicism, well that's even worse. They turned their back on the one faith a long time ago. Like God said, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men - Matthew 15:9Matthew 15:9 [King James Bible]: 9. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.. Then you have all the raping of young boys and harbouring of homosexuals that took place behind closed doors. That went on instinctively for years. Mind you, it's not so long ago that the Catholic church forbid the use of the Bible. Does that sound like the church we read about in the New Testament? The church that God adds the saved to? I don't think so. Neither should you.
